Case Study: Murray
Basic Information
Name: Murray
Breed: Feline, Domestic Long Hair
Sex: Male, Neutered
Weight: 6 lbs.
DOB/Age: 4 months
History
Murray was a kitten found along the roadside with an injury to his left front leg, and was brought to Lollypop for help. He was examined by a veterinarian who discovered he had multiple bite wounds to his front leg. X-rays were taken but no significant findings were noted. Murray was immediately put on antibiotics and sent to Thera-Vet for treatment.
Presenting Problems
Murray was unable to use his left front leg, due to suspected nerve damage.
Therapy Goals
Regain normal front limb function
Course of Therapy
Acupuncture was done every other day for Murray, Massage, Laser Therapy, neuromuscular stimulation and exercises were also part of his therapy. His time at TheraVet also gave him time to play, run around the office, and use his compromised leg as much as possible. Of course that included loads of cuddle time too! After a few weeks of therapy Murray was placed in foster care. His foster family was shown exercises and massage techniques, so that therapy could be continued at home.
Progress
Unfortunately, Murray never regained full function of his limb. He was placed up for adoption as a "special needs kitty", and adopted by a family who had another cat with special needs. According to his new mom, he is a kitty who doesn’t let his injury hinder his ability to have fun!
