Case Study: Rowdy

Basic Information

Rowdy Name: Rowdy
Breed: Schipperke
Sex: Male, Neutered
Weight: 16.4 lbs.
DOB/Age: 11/1997

History

Rowdy had a history of back pain, neck and/or elbow pain that initially responded to NSAID's. Potential NSAID reaction; could not tolerate NSAID's due to gastrointestinal upset. Owner was concerned about his quality of life.

Presenting Problems

Radiographic evidence of degenerative joint disease in right elbow, spondylosis at T11/T12, possible disc space narrowing at C5/C6.

Condition / Diagnosis / Findings

Pain/tenderness upon flexion of right elbow; thickened right elbow joint. Rowdy is hesitant to flexion and extension of his neck; compensatory muscle tightness bilaterally on neck.

Therapy Goals

Decrease pain; improve mobility and quality of life

Course of Therapy

Pulsed Signal Therapy (PST); with our stationary unit. Therapy consisted of nine 30 minute PST sessions.

Progress

8 week post PST examination; Rowdy appears much more relaxed. Mild tenderness upon flexion of right elbow. Allowing full flexion and extension of neck; no muscle tightness in neck.

Owner Comment

"We were looking at Rowdy's quality of life and considering euthanasia. Rowdy needed a little miracle and the PST was his miracle. It saved his life. We would use it again if needed for my other dogs and would recommend it to other people too."
