Individualized Treatment Plans
Each pet will receive a full physical examination by a Veterinarian prior to having a treatment plan designed for them. Your goals for treatment will be addressed during your first appointment and will be updated as the rehab progresses. Therapy may include one or multiple modalities to achieve these goals. `My main concern is solving your pet´s problem. This occurs primarily through stimulation of the central nervous system.<br><br>Since nerves integrate every organ and acupuncture stimulates these nerves, this modality offers a uniquely direct access to the body″s core systems.<br><br>Acupuncture has been used in humans and animals for over 4,000 years and is a good adjunctive therapy to western treatment plans. The American Veterinary Medical Association considers Veterinary acupuncture a valid modality within the practice of Veterinary Medicine.<br><br>The length and frequency of acupuncture treatments depend on the condition of the patient. Typically a patient is treated once or twice a week for a minimum of three to four treatments or until desirable effects are seen. It utilizes an evaluation and manipulation of the vertebral column that is based on movement and symmetry. In the vertebral column of the horse there are over 170 joints. The range of motion in each one of these joints is minimal, but the accumulative effect is critical for proper vertebral function.<br><br>Equine chiropractic helps to restore and maintain health and performance, working to eliminate the cause and not just the symptoms of a problem. The conformation of the horse, along with common stressful or traumatic situations, such as training and riding equipment, ability of the rider, or direct trauma, can cause abnormal or restricted movement to occur in the spine.<br><br>An area of the spine that is not moving properly is termed a subluxation or misalignment; meaning that the two adjoining vertebrae, muscles, ligaments and nerves that surround them are not moving properly. Chiropractic adjustments are based on the biomechanics of the spine and nervous system, and utilize a small amplitude, high velocity thrust at the area of the subluxation in order to facilitate proper function. Often no outward signs are available to let owners know when a subluxation has occurred. When long term, or chronic, problems reach the point of noticeable pain, the doctor may need to perform several adjustments in order to maintain and re-establish normal function of the joints and nervous system.
